OmniBSIC Bank adopts Shai Osudoku NICU, donates lifesaving equipment
OmniBSIC Bank has deepened its corporate social responsibility drive with the formal adoption of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Shai Osudoku District Hospital, accompanied by a major donation of specialised neonatal equipment to support the care of preterm and critically ill newborns.
The support was unveiled during the climax of the hospital’s World Prematurity Awareness Day celebration, held under the theme ‘Equitable Care for Every Preterm Baby’.
A high-level delegation from the Bank joined hospital officials and community leaders at the ceremony. Addressing the gathering on behalf of Managing Director Daniel Asiedu, Group Head of General Operations, Mr Dominic Donkoh, said the intervention reflected OmniBSIC’s long-term commitment to national development and measurable social impact.
“This is not merely a ceremonial gesture but a deliberate investment in the health and survival of Ghanaian newborns. We are here because this hospital has demonstrated excellence and accountability, and we believe that our support can help make an even greater difference,” he said. He added that OmniBSIC is intentional about backing institutions that deliver real results, noting that the performance of the Shai Osudoku District Hospital gives the Bank full confidence in the partnership.
The hospital has recorded notable improvements in neonatal and maternal health outcomes. NICU mortality declined from 7 percent in 2022 to 3.4 percent in 2024, even as admissions rose from 721 to 878. The facility manages a range of complex neonatal conditions, including prematurity, sepsis, congenital abnormalities, neonatal jaundice and meconium aspiration. From 2013 to 2018, the hospital recorded five consecutive years without a single maternal death, earning recognition as a benchmark institution by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2018.
To strengthen its expanding neonatal services, OmniBSIC Bank donated baby incubators, cots, a Firefly phototherapy machine, radiant warmers, vein viewer, pulse oximeters, sterilizers with timers, haemoglobinometers with strips and transcutaneous bilirubinometers.
Acting Medical Superintendent, Mr Alexander Adjei, said the equipment had arrived at a crucial time. “This donation has arrived at the perfect time and will significantly enhance our ability to care for preterm babies,” he said. “OmniBSIC Bank responded swiftly to our call for support, and we deeply appreciate their commitment.”
Also present was Mrs Akyaa Afreh Arhin Addo-Kufuor, Group Head of Legal and Recoveries and Company Secretary, who reiterated the Bank’s desire to build a long-term partnership. “This is only the beginning. We intend to work closely with the hospital to ensure the NICU remains adequately resourced and capable of delivering world-class care,” she noted.
Following the donation, staff of the Bank undertook a financial literacy outreach at the Shai Osudoku Market, educating traders, especially mothers, on sound financial practices such as separating business and personal finances, safeguarding business capital and maintaining accurate records. The Market Queen, Naa Ayeki Tsui III, commended OmniBSIC Bank for supporting both healthcare delivery and women’s economic empowerment, describing the gesture as one that “touches the heart of our community”.
OmniBSIC Bank reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the partnership and supporting the hospital’s vision of ensuring that every newborn receives a healthier start to life. The initiative aligns with the Ghana Sustainable Principles 3, 4 and 5, as well as UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 17.
