Public sector awards launched
An awards scheme to reward and encourage Ghana’s public sector as an important contributor in the economy has been launched in Accra. The awards scheme, which would be an annual event, would be organised by Instinct Wave limited.
Dubbed: “Ghana Public Sector Awards,” it is expected to create a platform in which Ghana’s public sector institutions could excel and be competitive and efficient like their counterparts in the private sector.
The Project Manager of the awards, Ms Debora Arthur indicated that the public sector played a significant role in creating employment and contributed in various services to the development of the economy.
According to her, the private sector has witnessed different kinds of awards and recognitions over the years and it may be interesting to note that the public sector has, however, been underrated and discredited with failure and negativity.
“In the real sense of it, the public sector has not been well represented, and thus has not been celebrated as it should be,” she said.
“It is on this note that the maiden Ghana Public Sector Awards will commence with a conference, discussing challenges, problems and the way forward in making public sectors in the country vibrant and up their game in contributing to the development of the country,” she noted.
She indicated that the event would bring together the best innovative and efficient performers from Ghana’s public sector.
The conference would create a common Ghanaian administrative space, develop new administrative problem-solving paradigms, improve performance in public service delivery, effective and efficient leadership and improved management of state resources.
Explaining further, she said the event would shed light on public sector projects and most importantly act as a means of delivering more efficient and effective public services while also recognising efforts being made to impact positively on the citizenry.
It will also recognise the creative achievements and contributions of public service institutions that lead to a more robust and encompassing administration in Ghana and foster constructive competition among public sector agencies.
