Qur'an recitation heralds Ramadan
In line with tradition, the National Mosque has held its annual Marhaba (Welcome) Ramadan to usher in the one-month fasting and prayer activity.
More than 500 Muslim children of different nationalities based in the country, gathered at the Mosque in Nima, Accra, to showcase their talents in Qur'an recitation - Jil Al Qur'an.
The event, which heralds the annual Ramadan, was also aimed at exposing the children to the dos and don'ts during the fasting period and the benefits that come with it.
Significance
The Deputy Administrator of the National Mosque, Alhaji Jabir Kango, told the Daily Graphic, "If we don't introduce our children to the faith very early, they might end up as deviants in society".
He said the rationale for the event was to shape the lives of the children by making Qur'an recitation a daily practice to build their faith in God.
Dressed in their favourite Jenabiya and Abaya apparel - long, loose-fitting garments that covered the entire body, the children lived up to expectations by reciting and delivering a well-rehearsed choreography dance that illustrated some of the stories in the verses.
Power of Ramadan
The Supervisor of the programme, Ayuba Ismail Umar, said the power of Ramadan could not be equated to any force.
"It is a month when all sins are forgiven. A month of promotion, rewards, healing and any good thing you can think of," he said.
