The feature is centred on the origin and growth of the hiplife genre over the years and would have some of the big hiplife tunes from some of its forerunners such as Akyeame, Obrafour, Bukbak, among others,  played on air.

Seasoned Ghanaian music producer, Panji Anoff and Professor John Collins of the University of Ghana Music Department, will speak to the world on Hiplife. The two music connoisseurs will narrate the stories of this hybrid music genre of Ghanaian highlife and American hiphop.

The feature by Eugene Selorm Owusu of the University of Ghana, will air on the Music Time in Africa show, hosted by Dr Heather Maxwell on VOA Radio (English to Africa Service) at 09:00 GMT, 15:00GMT and 20:00GMT on Sunday April 3.

Hiplife music is reputed to have been originated by Reggie Rockstone who is described as the “Grandpapa of Hiplife”.

His songs such as Makaa Maka and Choo Boi are believed to have created the hiplife genre which was later promoted by other hiplife artistes such as Akyeame, Ex-Doe, Buk Bak, Okomfo Kwaadee, Lord Kenya and Obrafour.
