Acting made me famous, not wealthy – Yaw Dabo
Popular Kumawood actor and football administrator, Samuel Yaw Dabo, has opened up about the financial realities of Ghana's movie industry, revealing that while acting brought him widespread recognition, it did not make him rich.
Speaking in a recent interview, Dabo explained that the movie industry gave him the fame that transformed his life and opened doors to other opportunities, but the financial rewards from acting alone were limited.
According to him, the public often assumes actors earn huge sums of money because of their visibility and popularity, but the reality is quite different. He noted that although movies projected him into the spotlight and made him a household name, the income generated from acting was not enough to make him wealthy. Dabo said his popularity through movies has, however, enabled him to venture into other businesses and opportunities that have contributed to his current success.
The actor, who has featured in numerous Kumawood productions over the years, maintained that the film industry remains important because it creates visibility and serves as a platform for talented individuals to showcase their craft.
Despite the challenges facing the local movie industry, Dabo believes actors can still leverage their fame to build successful careers beyond the screen.
