I was a tomboy — Sista Afia

Ghanaian musician Sista Afia has opened up about her childhood, revealing that she was a tomboy growing up in a background she says has been central to shaping her stage presence, musical style, and personality.

Speaking in an interview on Angel FM in Kumasi, the singer said the confidence and energy she brings to her performances can be traced directly to her early years.

"The masculine strength and style that I bring onto the stage is because I was a tomboy," she said.

The revelation may surprise many fans who know her for her glamorous image, but Sista Afia was unapologetic about her past, saying it has been a driving force behind her success in Ghana's hip-hop scene.

"I am also making waves in the hip-hop space because I was a tomboy when I was young," she noted.

She also credited her upbringing for her love of football, her alertness, and her ability to connect easily with men.

"I played with guys a lot when growing up, and that has made me vigilant," she said, adding that the experience also means "it makes it easy for me to relate to any guy."

Ultimately, every time she steps on stage, Sista Afia said she gives her all. "I do my best when I come on stage to perform," she stated.
