She explained that the finishing of artworks, when done well, provoked curiosity among global patrons, which consequently spurs their patronage.

“The themes and creativity employed in the work should be enhanced to attract a lot of curiosity which will eventually lead to high patronage of artworks and designs,” she said on Thursday as she opened a month-long exhibition in Accra dubbed “Art in Every Space.”

The exhibition, staged at the Art Gallery and Exhibition Hall of the Arts Centre, was organised by the Ghana Association of Visual Arts (GAVA) as part of its annual celebrations.

Held in collaboration with the Centre for National Culture (Arts Centre), Accra and under the auspices of the MOTCCA, it was on the  theme “Meeting the artist in every space.”

Among the items on display were crafts, sculptural pieces, textile products with accessories and paintings.

Mrs Ofosu-Adjare applauded the efforts of the GAVA in holding several exhibitions in recent times, mentioning in particular the one held two months ago at the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board.

“I must congratulate the organisers and members of the GAVA and all who have contributed towards the success of this exhibition on the hard work they exhibited in putting together many artworks for our learning and pleasure,” she said.

She said as powerful tools of expression, the displayed artworks exemplified “the unlimited potential of our members to explore their environment and to present innovative impressions of their observations in varied media.”

Mrs Ofosu-Adjare, therefore, called for the education on and appreciation of art and culture in order to promote both domestic and international tourism.

She said “Tourism is an effective tool for the promotion of arts and culture, poverty reduction leading to the improvement of lifestyles for individuals and communities in the country through job creation and income generation.”

That, she observed, had the potential to trigger major socio-economic benefits to the country by fostering the continuity of local traditions and cultures, as well as its contribution towards the recovery of the economy.

In attendance at the opening ceremony were Messrs Franklin Nii Glover, Ofei Dako and Lawrence K. Agyeman, the president, vice president and secretary respectively of the GAVA.

For his part, the President of the GAVA said the exhibition would provide producers of artworks, particularly the youth,  the opportune platform to display their talent.

He commended members of the association for their efforts in creating more artworks, and urged them to produce more to promote and sustain interest in the arts industry.
