Gender Ministry condemns actress over controversial picture

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has condemned an actress for sharing a nude image of herself kneeling in front of her son on social media.

The Ministry in a press release classified the photograph as an act of pornography which infringes upon the Children's Act, 1998 (Act 560) and the Criminal and Other Offences Act, (Act 30).

The Ministry added that it is liaising with the appropriate agencies to deal with the issue.

"The Ministry highly condemns this act which is classified as indecent exposure of the child, an act of pomography, degrading and also against the Children's Act, 1998 (Act 560) and the Criminal and Other Offences Act, (Act 30)," the Ministry said in a statement signed by the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Madam Cynthia Mamle Morrison.

The Ministry also cautioned the public to desist from re-sharing the image since it is an offence.

The Ministry wishes to reiterate that the posting of nude pictures on social media at all times is a serious offence and all must desist from the act. Please stop sharing the post as this too is an offence.

Actress apologises

The actress Rosemond Brown alias Akuapem Poloo has since apologised for the post after a backlash on social media.

She said she was sorry if her post, which she insists was not pornographic hurt anyone.

However, she had earlier defended her actions in a radio interview, insisting that she was not completely naked.

Meanwhile, Child Rights International, a non-governmental organisation has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the actions of the actress which they deem a violation of the Children’s Act.

“As a child’s right organisation that believes in upholding the rights of the citizenry, we deem this act as a violation of the welfare principle of the Children’s Act and abuse of the child’s right to privacy and dignity. We wish to notify your esteem office to investigate the taking of the said images and its circulation,” Child Right International said in its petition.

“I was not completely naked. He did not see my organs because I covered myself with a cloth and applied sellotapes to the necessary parts. Besides the picture was taken in my own house,” Akuapem Poloo said in an interview with Zylofon FM.
