Ghana Models Awards 2023: Surprise cash prizes redirected as overall winners forfeit due to absence
In a captivating evening of glamour at Cee Jay Studios in Accra, the 6th edition of the annual Ghana Models Awards unfolded last Saturday, drawing together a distinguished audience of fashion enthusiasts.

The event introduced a surprising twist, offering cash prizes to the overall winners, a departure from previous editions. However, an unexpected turn of events ensued as both winners failed to attend without prior notification to the Secretariat. Consequently, although retaining their titles as the Overall Models of the Year for 2023, they forfeited their cash prizes.
Founder Jerry Wonder Sampson disclosed that the unclaimed cash prizes were redirected to two deserving models present at the event, Adwoa Takyiwa Micah and Glenn Zime, a decision ratified by the audience and the cash prize sponsor, 'Glasel Company Limited.'
Speaking at the event, Sampson highlighted the importance of honouring those who actively support the awards scheme. He emphasized the significance of allocating the cash prizes to models present at the ceremony, underlining the potential negative signal absenteeism could send to sponsors. The Founder acknowledged the efforts of those who actively promoted the Ghana Models Awards brand, ensuring its continued success.
The cash prizes, originally designated for the 'Overall Male Model of the Year' and the 'Overall Female Model of the Year,' amounted to Ghc 1000 and Ghc 4000, respectively. Other winners received prizes from sponsors such as Flora Tissues and Ghandour Cosmetics.
