Haduwa theatre opens at Apam
A spectacular open-ended dome which will be the site for cultural events has opened at Apam in the Central Region.

Designed and built by Haduwa Arts and Culture Institute, the theatre will host performances in the areas of dance, drama, poetry, music and visual art.
Built with bamboo, the space has the ambition of becoming the new location for inter-cultural as well as inter-disciplinary exchange dedicated to the promotion of performance and visual arts in Ghana.
“This is an exciting piece of architecture,” said some of the visitors who thronged to the venue to be part of the exciting experience.
Among the audience were Nana Effrim X, chief of Apam and Baerbel Mueller of Applied Foreign Affairs, collaborators in the project.
Commenting on the project, Benedict Quaye a director at Haduwa Arts said it was high time local artistes used their imagination to create user-friendly public spaces.
Also known as ‘Sir Black’, Quaye said “this bamboo theatre has become the new landmark which lines the shores of the Atlantic Ocean in Apam.”
Haduwa Arts and Culture Institute is a meeting ground for artists and cultural practitioners in Africa and Europe to support excellence and diversity in and through the arts.

The unique bamboo structure, which serves as a shared space, landmark and stage has been built by theAppied Foreign Affairs team, together with international and local experts.
The event was enlivened by recitals and music from various artistes including Rainers, Nana Senti Awere, Nana Tshito, DK and Bella Obiago.
