After years of pushing for more recognition and respect for Ghanaian comedians, David Oscar is hanging up his boots.

The comedian, who came into the limelight after winning a comic talent show organised by Charterhouse, says he is leaving his first love behind to pursue music.

Last year, David Oscar announced his entry into the music industry with a reggae single titled Monalisa and has gone on to release other singles like Blow and Get There One Day with Wutah Afriyie, which came out a few days ago.

Although his name is not really resounding as a musician, the host of the Corporate Comedy Series on TV says he is happy at how he is doing in the industry.

“My music career has been very fruitful so far. Judging from where I was a year ago, I think I have made tremendous progress,” he told Showbiz in a chat.

One other reason why David Oscar feels comfortable leaving comedy behind at this time is because he feels people now appreciate that there are good comedians in Ghana now.

“Personally, I think we’ve gotten to a point where everybody accepts that there are cool enough comedians in Ghana so I have to take care of myself. My time with comedy is effectively done, so now I can focus on my music and that’s what I’m pushing”.

Speaking on what inspired him to take such a bold decision, David said his feelings played a major role.

“My inspiration starts from my emotions and the fact that I also listen to reggae music a lot. In the course of doing that, I think I am inspired to write the same kind of music.

“As an artiste, sometimes when you go through certain things in life and you don’t have a way of dealing with it, I think some of the emotions and motivations can be turned into music just to express how you’re feeling”.

His latest single, Get There One Day, which was produced by Beatz of Beatshop Ghana, talks about the hustle of young African men in their quest to survive and make a living despite the obstacles they face.

In the song, David says it is his dream to make it one day and take his loved ones with him hence his constant hustle. The song is inspirational and enhanced by Afriyie’s beautiful voice.

David said he was hopeful that music will make him successful and push him further into the limelight. He disclosed that he has a number of collaborations with Ghanaian and international artistes in the works and his next song, Rasta Love, will be released soon.

Music fans should get ready as David Oscar readies to take the music world by storm.
