It’s Friday with Cartel Big J

In January this year, Praye Tietia, now known as Cartel Big J released his debut song, Mafiwo, as a solo artiste. The song featured highlife artiste, Akwaboah. He is back with a new song, Friday which features Edem.

A danceable tune with a catchy and simple chorus, Friday is definitely one that many people would love and sing along to. The song’s composition and instrumentals is sure to get anyone to tap the feet, nod the head or get to the dance floor upon hearing it.

Cartel Big J introduces the song by telling Edem that it is a Friday and that they need to go out to chill. His vocal delivery on the chorus may not be the best but that notwithstanding, the chorus is quite interesting and catchy and it goes like this It’s Friday and we’re gonna go out to chill on a Friday.

Edem later comes in to rap in the Ewe language talking about how many “girls girls” and “boys boys” love to mingle at hot spots on Friday nights.

Cartel Big J who came into spotlight as a member of the defunct music trio, Praye said the composition of the song came about because there is the need for a national Friday song to whip up the interest of people in “Friday night activities”.

“It may not be official but we all know that Fridays are for night outs and social gatherings. It is mostly the day when people let their hair down after working throughout the week and I thought making a song to get people in the mood will not be a bad idea,” he told Showbiz on Monday.

As part of his rebranding as a solo artiste, Cartel big J who is currently working with his own record label, Mature Music Records, described himself as an Afro pop artiste. That, he said won’t limit his ability to explore other music genres.

“Every artiste should have an identity with his music and I want to be known as an Afro pop artiste. Well, my first song, Mafiwo, was highlife and the feedback was good and that shows that I’m a versatile artiste,” he said.

He said he needed to prove to his crictis that he had matured over the years and that influenced his composition of Friday.

Real name, Steven Fiawoo, Big J Cartel said he is working on the release of his first solo album, Matured Music.

“My fans should expect a great piece of musical work from me. I believe in my product and I have worked hard to come out with the best. I believe my album will speak for itself,” he added.
