Marriage counseling essential for preventing divorce -Expert says
Co-founder of Narrow Path International Ministries, Dr. Evelyn Sefakor Augustt, has attributed the rising divorce rates to couples neglecting counseling during their marriages.
She said many couples would have preserved their marriages if they devoted the same attention to addressing challenges through counseling as they did before the wedding.
While most pastors emphasize pre-marital counseling, she notes they often fail to stress the importance of continued guidance after couples exchange vows.
According to Dr. Augustt, ongoing marriage counseling is crucial because many differences between partners only become apparent after marriage.
"People have different attitudes and behaviors that may not surface during courtship and only become noticeable during marriage," she explained.
"It's vital that couples seek counseling for issues affecting their relationship early, before problems escalate to the point of divorce,” she added.
Dr. Augustt highlighted several benefits of continued counseling, noting that It improves intimacy, helps partners appreciate each other's weaknesses, fosters better understanding, and enables couples to live harmoniously together."
She encouraged everyone, regardless of their life circumstances, to seek counseling even after praying about important decisions.
As Managing Director of Trent UK, Dr. Augustt believes many individuals could have excelled in their careers or family relationships had they received professional guidance.
"Some people live without a clear purpose, feeling confused about their direction in life. Professional counseling support is the surest way to address these challenges," she added.
