Nawat Itsaragrisil has been dismissed from this year's Miss Universe pageant following his confrontation with Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch.
On Wednesday, Nov. 4, Miss Universe President Raúl Rocha announced multiple sanctions against Itsaragrisil, including his restriction from the pageant, which will be held on Nov. 21.
"I have restricted Nawat's participation in the events that are part of the 74th Miss Universe competition, limiting it as much as possible or eliminating it entirely," Rocha stated in Spanish in a subtitled video posted to the organization's official Instagram page.
He continued to express his "great indignation towards Nawat for the public aggression he committed against Fátima Bosch ... whom he humiliated, insulted, and showed lack of respect to."
The announcement comes after Itsaragrisil made headlines for his heated interaction with Miss Mexico during a livestream on the pageant's official Facebook page.
He called out Bosch for allegedly refusing to partake in a photo shoot set up to provide content for contestants to share on social media. She denied the claims; however, Itsaragrisil continued to chastise her. She eventually walked out of the room, and several other contestants got up to follow.
"I will not allow the values of respect and dignity towards women to be violated," said Rocha in his statement. "Nawat, you need to stop."
He also said that the pageant's sash presentation would be postponed to "avoid any interaction" with Itsaragrisil. Rocha urged Miss Universe Organization CEO Mario Bucaro to speak on behalf of the pageant and announced the legal actions they expect to take "as a result of the malicious acts committed by Nawat."
Itsaragrisil has since apologized for the incident. During a press conference held on Nov. 5, the Miss Universe Thailand director tearfully expressed remorse for his actions. "I am human. I didn’t want to do anything like that," he told the press, as reported by USA Today.
In a video posted to TikTok, Itsaragrisil could be seen addressing reporters emphatically as he sheds a tear. In the background, a man stands by, carrying tissues for Itsaragrisil. (Related article:
Later the same day, during a pageant welcome event, Itsaragrisil addressed a crowd of onlookers, apologizing to the Miss Universe delegates who could be seen standing behind him.
"I had not [intended] to harm anyone because I respect all of you," he said, speaking into a microphone. "I am so sorry it happened. First, I have to apologize to the delegates. If anyone was affected and not comfortable with what happened, I am so sorry."
The Miss Universe Organization, Fátima Bosch and Itsaragrisil did not respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
