Nana Kobina Nketsia to chair Atuu Festival launch

The Omanhene of the Essikadu Traditional Area in the Western Region, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, will chair the launch of the Atuu Festival of Arts at the Golden Tulip Hotel next month.

This was announced by a member of the festival’s planning committee, Mr Abeiku ‘Santana’ Aggrey, at a stakeholders meeting in Accra. According to him, Nana Nketsia V was chosen because of his passionate concern for the development of the arts in Ghana.

The meeting formed part of stakeholder consultations on the upcoming festival. Present were board members of the three collection management organisations in this country: Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), Audio Visual Rights Society of Ghana (ARSOG) and Copy Ghana and some stalwarts in the creative arts industry.

In his remarks, Mr. Aggrey said the festival was intended to enrich the creative arts and cultural lives of the people of Ghana.

“We want to help put the country on the global map as a major cultural and arts destination and also link local rights owners to the international scene of entertainment, arts and culture,” Mr Aggrey pointed out.

He indicated that the festival would embrace symposiums, workshops and performances.

The chairman of the Joint Committee of Collection Management Organisations (JCCMOs), Mr Asare Yamoah, also called on creative arts practitioners to fully support the festival of Arts which would be launched on Saturday, August 19, at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra.
