Children’s support fund for helicopter crash victims exceeds GH¢10 million

The Children’s Support Fund set up for victims of the August 6, 2025, Ghana Air Force helicopter crash has exceeded GH¢10 million, according to a statement issued by Dr Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund.

In the statement released on Saturday, February 28, 2026, Dr Sawyerr said total donations had reached GH¢10,150,495.00 and US$20,000.00.

The amount covers contributions received between October 17, 2025 and February 7, 2026.

The fund was launched by President John Dramani Mahama on August 15, 2025, during the state funeral for the eight victims.

It is intended to support the education, healthcare and welfare of the children left behind.

The helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District in the Ashanti Region, killing the Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister for Environment, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six others.

The fund has grown steadily since its launch. From an initial GH¢2.3 million in August 2025, it rose to over GH¢6.5 million in September and reached GH¢8.6 million by mid-October.

Recent contributions have come from Ghana Reinsurance, Kosmos Energy Ghana, Vitol Ghana Services Limited, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of the Interior, and staff of the Office of the President.

Dr Sawyerr called on the public to continue to support the fund through Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited, Stanbic Heights Branch in Accra.

She said donations could be made into the Ghana cedi account number 9040013628372 or the US dollar account number 9040013628534.

She added that cheques should be made payable to Children Support Fund 6825, while mobile money payments are also accepted.
