VR Chief Imam, Sariki Zongo donate 111 bags of rice and sugar to Zango communities
The Volta Regional Chief Imam and the Sariki Zongo of Ho have presented food items valued at about GH¢60,000 to various Zango divisions in the region to support Muslims observing Ramadan.
The donation, made on Wednesday, February 25, comprised 111 bags of rice and 111 bags of sugar for distribution among Zango communities to assist members in breaking their fast during the holy month.
The items were presented by the Sariki Zongo of Ho, Yushau Bashiru Turawah, who is also President of the Volta Regional Council of Zango Chiefs, together with the Volta Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Muniru Ali.
Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, communal prayer, reflection and community reunion.
Presenting the items, Sariki Turawah said the gesture was in keeping with the spirit of the season, which emphasises compassion and support for others.
“Sharing what you have with others is a sign of love,” he explained.
He noted that Ramadan offered an opportunity for Muslims to strengthen bonds within their communities and extend assistance to the less privileged.
The Chief of the Zabrama community, Adamu Hamani Dagadu III, who received the items on behalf of the divisions, expressed gratitude to the Sariki Zongo and the Regional Chief Imam for what he described as an overwhelming gesture.
He urged members of the community to remain united and to care for one another in accordance with Islamic teachings.
Ramadan is considered one of the holiest periods in the Islamic calendar. During the month, adult Muslims fast daily from dawn until sunset as an act of worship and self-discipline.
The period is marked by increased prayer, charity, recitation of the Quran and the strengthening of community ties. The beginning of Ramadan is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon, and the month lasts either 29 or 30 days, depending on the lunar cycle.
