No show at KKD’s trial
The fate of renowned television and radio host, Mr Kwasi Kyei Darkwa, popularly known as KKD, who was arrested for alleged sexual assault of a 19-year-old student, will be decided today.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ms Effia Tenge, KKD was supposed to appear before the Accra Circuit Court yesterday but was not sent there before the court closed.
That meant KKD spent a third day at the Airport Police Station.
Background
KKD was arrested by the Airport Police at the African Regency Hotel in Accra last Saturday after a lady had lodged a complaint of sexual assault against him.
The police were not able to give details about the incident because it was too early to assemble the facts.
But when contacted, KKD’s lawyer, Nana Asante Bediatuo, said his client had consensual sex with the victim and expressed shock at the lie being peddled by the lady.
The case has been handed over to the Accra Regional Police Command for further investigations.
Family support
When the news went viral that KKD would be sent to court yesterday, some of his relatives and friends in the showbiz confraternity thronged the Accra Circuit Court to witness proceedings.
Some of the relatives were spotted standing at the entrance to the court waiting for KKD to be ushered in by the police.
Immediately they heard the news that the case had been adjourned, they left the court.
An attempt to speak to some of them proved futile, as none of them was willing to speak to the media.
