PRESEC drama club to honour Prof Lade Wosornu

The Drama Club of the Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC) in Accra will on March 3, this year, honour one of the country’s finest surgeons and poets, Professor Lade Wosornu.

The astute professor who has achieved great feats in the field of Science, has also contributed immensely to the development of the Ghanaian literary arts industry.

Prof Wosornu has three collections of poetry works, namely Ete’ & Other Poems; Celestial Bride & Other Poems; and Journey Without Ends & Other Poems.

A number of Prof Wosornu’s other works, including the “The Master Brewer” and “Desert River” have been used in many institutions of higher learning, Senior High Schools as well as basic schools.

As part of activities to mark the upcoming 80th anniversary of the school, the Drama Club will be performing one of Prof Wosornu’s poems— Dead Heat.

Some literary pundits believe that Prof Wosornu’s “Dead Heat” poem made bold predictions some 23 years ago about the current political happenings in the United States of America (USA), particularly with its rippling effects on Africa.

Set in the USA Embassy in Accra in the 21st Century, the production depicts the worries of African citizens as portrayed in Prof Wosornu’s poem, especially the relations between the US consulate and the many visa seekers.

The performance was conceptualised and directed by Oswald Okaitei, an award-winning poet and playwright and an old student of the school.

The performance, which will be staged on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 4pm at the school’s Main Auditorium, will be free to the public.
