Ruth with "Woye Ohen"

She has been backing gospel musicians for years and though she still does, gospel musician, Ruth, believes she is well groomed to lend her talent to the industry. That was an inspiration to release her first album, Liquid Prayers two years ago and she’s back with a new song titled, Woye Ohen.

Released in December last year, Woye Ohen is a mid- tempo song rendered in Fante Twi and English. The song, which talks about God’s royalty and His everlasting reign, starts with Ruth praising God in Twi and talking about how His kingdom is above all others. She also sings about the faithfulness of God ‘‘Oh lord, you’ve been so faithful to me, Mighty God You’ve always been there for me, Showing me your kindness, mercies and love’’ she sings the chorus.

In all, the arrangement of the song in terms of its rhythm, lyrics and Ruth’s strong voice which obviously is an asset makes the song soothing to the ears.

Talking about her “marriage with music”, Ruth, born Ruth Adjei, said her talent is hereditary because she was born into a family where music ‘reigns’.

‘‘I was born into a family of music; everyone in my house sings. My elder brother is with a choral group in Accra, Harmonious Chorale and my other siblings were all part of the ever famous Winneba Youth Choir. As a singer myself, I’m a member of E’mpraise’ group,” the Human Resource Management student at the University College of Management Studies(UCOMS), said.

A product of the Professional Institute of Journalism, Accra, Ruth has backed many gospel singers including Joe Mettle, Uncle Ato, Eugene Zuta, Gifty Osei, SP Sarpong, No Tribe, Cindy Thompson, Hannah Marfo and the late Comfort Annor. She has also been featured by artistes such as Eugene Zuta, Stephen Tetteh and Kobby Mantey.

Ruth says, she is inspired by the passion to preach about “hope in the midst of life’s difficulties” and is currently working on the release of two albums by the end of the year.
