The Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) took center stage on Wednesday, October 2, as the prestigious awards unveiled nominees in 26 categories for the 2024 edition, celebrating the best of African cinema.

The event, which brought together top filmmakers, was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, and featured films across Africa’s filmmaking zones.
Ghana's own Jackie Appiah made the nominee list for Best Actress in a Leading Role, thanks to her remarkable performance in the movie Red Carpet.
The nomination unveiling featured notable Nollywood filmmakers and industry personalities, with a congratulatory message from the head of the jury, Dorothy Werner, who emphasised the importance of celebrating African creativity. Werner expressed her admiration for the unique stories told by African filmmakers, highlighting the potential of African cinema on the global stage.
Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe, CEO of the African Film Academy, organisers of AMAA, outlined the exciting events lined up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the awards.
He also commended the partnership and support from sponsors, particularly acknowledging Lagos State Government for its long-term collaboration.
The anniversary celebration includes the AMAA Coffee Book launch on October 25, AMAA African Legend Night on November 1, AMAA Meets Nollywood fashion and exhibition show, and culminates with the AMAA Gala Night on November 2, 2024.
