Bullion van robbery, threat to all

Bullion van robberies in broad daylight are becoming distressing and a recurring challenge across the country.

They pose significant dangers to all. Despite the presence of stringent surveillance systems, substantial amounts of money are stolen and police escorts are sometimes killed in the process.

These occurrences suggest that criminals exploit security vulnerabilities and errors during the transportation of the money.

The criminals may be colluding with insiders in the police service and the banks.

These robberies often result in injuries and loss of lives, particularly among police escorts.

To enhance the security of bullion vans, the police force should adopt advanced technologies such as improved surveillance systems and GPS tracking.

The police force should utilise information to closely monitor police escorts, bullion van drivers and bank employees during the transportation of money.

When culprits are apprehended, they must be diligently pursued, punished, and incarcerated.

Moreover, banks should procure appropriate bullion vans for their operations or else, the police should decline to provide escorts.

Implementing comprehensive training programmes for security personnel will equip them with the skills to recognise threats and respond effectively to emergencies.

By implementing these measures, we can effectively eradicate or minimise bullion van robberies, create a safer environment in Ghana and maintain economic stability.
