JJ never said it was impossible to unseat a one term president

There has been a consistent pattern of wicked misrepresentation and misinterpretation of statements made by JJR by some people basically to feed into their varying political aspirations, desires or ambition.

That would neither be my focus nor my interest since these machinations have failed fantastically over the past 4 decades.

Keeping to the tradition of a mischievous few, a conditional statement of a Government retaining power being dependent on its performance has again been twisted beyond the wildest imagination for a certain inglorious agenda.

FOR THE PURPOSES OF CLARITY, AT NO POINT DID JJR SUGGEST or INDICATE in his latest off the cuff comment THAT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO UNSEAT THE CURRENT PRESIDENT AFTER ONE TERM.

Every political watcher knows that with the established convention of two consecutive terms for each government since 1992, it would take extra work and commitment by the opposition to unseat a government after its first term.

We saw it in 1996, 2004 and 2012.

In 2004, even when NDC believed that it had majority of votes it ironically remained in opposition.

The retort by JJR to the journalist when he asked whether NPP was going to do 8 years is interestingly thought provoking.

NDC in 2020 will be presented with a fine opportunity to break the fourth republican convention established thus far.

We ought to do much more in 2020 than with did in 2016 with obviously far less resources.

It’s no doubt an uphill task!!

I believe it can be done only if we work hard to present ourselves as a rehabilitated and better alternative to the current status quo.

The policies that seem to be buying the NPP some good will in their first 8 months might serve as the dagger they would fall on by their fourth year since policy rigor, sustainability and foresightedness have been sacrificed for temporary gratification and political expediency.

In as much as I am optimistic and hopeful, I would always prefer to have a father who would challenge me to do the impossible with the shocking and unpalatable truths.

Long Live NDC
