Street hawking is becoming a canker

Hawking of various items on the streets, especially at traffic intersections is becoming a canker in the various towns and cities.

Both the young and old could be seen carrying drinks, toffees, chocolate, pure water, bread, biscuits, fowls and even dogs on the street doing brisk business.

Hawkers easily become victims of road accidents because they spend time concentrating on what they are selling, while looking towards the direction of moving vehicles to attract passengers, ignoring on coming vehicles.

Recently, a pure water seller was knocked down by a motorcyclist when she tried running after a trotro to sell to a passenger.

To help address the problem, I am appealing to the government to create more jobs in the country so that hawkers would stop selling on the streets since the practice is dangerous.
