Kenya: Four police officers killed by speeding car
Four police officers were killed on Tuesday night by a speeding saloon car five kilometres from Emali shopping centre along Mombasa Highway.
Those who died were three officers from the Administration Police and a regular police officer.
Three officers died on the spot while the fourth one died at Kilome Nursing Home in Emali while undergoing treatment.
A fifth officer was injured and was transferred to Nairobi Hospital for treatment, according to the area police commander Gregory Muganda.
Mr Muganda said seven people in the saloon car were injured and were rushed to Kilome Nursing Home, where they were admitted.
He said the incident happened at 8.10pm on Tuesday. He said the police officers were manning a roadblock on the Emali-Oloitoktok road.
He said the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road and landed in a ditch.
All bodies were taken to the Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary.
Speaking from his hospital bed, the driver of the car (name withheld) said he lost control of the vehicle after he swerved to avoid a lorry that was parked on the roadside.
