Mr Mahama secured 56.6 per cent of the vote, defeating Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia in the December 7 polls. His victory is historic as it marks the first time in Ghana’s Fourth Republic that a president has received an overwhelming endorsement from the electorate.

Additionally, Mr Mahama’s win will see Ghana make history by swearing in its first female Vice-President, a groundbreaking development for gender inclusion in the country’s leadership.

President Putin’s message highlighted the longstanding “friendly nature” of Russian-Ghanaian relations and expressed optimism that Mahama’s leadership will strengthen “mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in various fields.”
