571,894 candidates to write BECE
A total number of 571,894 candidates, made up of 287,605 males and 284,289 females are expected to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) from Monday, November 15, 2012.
The candidates are from 18,028 schools and they will write the examination at 2,158 centres throughout the country.

Figures available to the Junior Graphic from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) indicate that altogether, there will be 2,158 supervisors, 1,853 assistant supervisors and 20,124 invigilators.
The statistics also indicate that the Ashanti Region has the highest number of candidates with 111,432 students comprising 55,829 males and 55,603 females.
The Greater Accra Region is second highest with 105,539 candidates, made up of 50,815 males and 54,824 females.
The Central Region has 63,727 candidates, which include 31,954 males and 31,773 females, while the Western and Western North regions together have 58, 316 candidates with 29,718 males and 28,598 females.
Also, 55,930 students will represent the Eastern Region with 28,475 males and 27,455 females while the Bono, Ahafo and Bono East regions together, are presenting 53,265 candidates, made of 27,138 males and 26,127.
The Northern, North East and Savanna regions are represented by 44,838 candidates with 24,029 males and 20,809 females, whereas the Volta and Oti regions have 42,093 candidates made up of 21,871 males and 20,809 females.
The statistics further indicate that the Upper East Region has 22,116 students with 10,586 males and 11,530 females and the Upper West Region will present 14,638 candidates made of 7,290 males and 7,348 females.
Last year, 531,705 candidates, made up of 269,419 males and 262,286 females sat for the BECE. This means that there has been an increase of 40,189 candidates this year.
The BECE, which used to be written in June had to be written in September 14, last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic which compelled the government to close down schools for a period of nine months.
However, final-year JHS students were asked to go back to school on June 29, 2020, to prepare for the BECE, which they wrote from Monday, September 14 to 18, 2020.
This year, not only did the month for the BECE change, the timetable for the examination changed as well.
The revised timetable shows that candidates will write Social Studies and French on the first day, November 15, with Mathematics and Building Design and Technology (BDT) on day two, while English Language and Religious and Moral Education (RME) would be written on the third day.
On day four, candidates will write integrated Science and Ghanaian Language. The final paper, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will be written on November 19, 2021.
Previously, English Language and RME were the papers to be written first, while Integrated Science and BDT were written on the second day.
Day three had ICT and French with day four being Mathematics and Ghanaian Language. Day five, the last day, had Social Studies.
