The programme, which was held at the Afienya Youth Leadership Training Centre, attracted participants between the ages of 12 and 16 within the Afienya Education Circuit.

They were taken through various mentorship programmes, including talks, workshops, personal development activities, success technique clinics and games.

Some of the resource persons were judges, lawyers, bankers, doctors and HIV and AIDS ambassadors.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, the management of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) distributed copies of the Junior Graphic, as well as an in-house magazine, the Inside Graphic, to each participant.

A Senior Corporate Communications Officer of the GCGL, Ms Kyerewaa Boateng, told the participants to cultivate the reading habit to enhance their performance.

“Junior Graphic is your own paper. By reading it regularly, you will get to know what is happening around you and also make inputs through short stories, letters and poems,” she said.

Ms Boateng told the participants that the paper also served as a resource material, as it published sample examination questions to guide students preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and encouraged them to read each edition of the paper to improve on their academic performance.

As part of the camp, a quiz was organised for the participants, with questions selected from various editions of the Junior Graphic.

The Founder and Principal of the Nneka Youth Foundation, Mrs Cecilia Fiaka, commended the management of the GCGL for the gesture, pointing out that it would go a long way to improve the reading culture among the youth, especially those in the deprived communities.

She said the foundation had constructed mini libraries which would be stocked with books to promote reading and writing.

She said it would also hold regular reading clinics after school to help the youth
