Auntie Betty: I’m unable to study at dawn

Dear Auntie Betty, I am a final year student and find it very challenging to wake up at dawn to study.

I find it difficult to wake up at the sound of the alarm clock. Sometimes, after struggling to wake up, I doze off while learning.

I know I have to wake up for dawn studies but all my efforts have been to no avail. What should I do? Worried Girl,

Dodowa.

Dear Worried Girl, We all have different ways of studying to get the best results so you have to find your learning style including what time of the day works best for you.

Once you figure that out you can study more effectively. Since you are in your final year, you really have to be determined and committed to this cause in order to pass your examination with flying colours.

According to experts, for students who have more energy earlier in the day, studying in the morning may work best, when the brain is better able to focus while for students who have more energy later in the day, evening or night-time can be a more effective time to study.

Therefore, they advise that if you are an evening or night studier, it is important to make sure you still get enough sleep each night.

Although studying at dawn has some advantages such as fewer distractions and peace and quiet, you have to try other times of the day and see what works for you. It must not only be at dawn.

If you are determined to study at dawn, then you have to go to bed early so that you are able to wake up and study. If you stay up late, then it will be difficult to wake up early.

There may be other things that you are doing that may prevent you from being able to study at dawn.

So you need to figure them out and address them. But the most important thing is to know what time of the day is best for you or combine some study techniques to achieve the best results. All the best.
