Quiz to evaluate free distribution of Junior Graphic

The Nkwantakesedo Methodist Primary School in the Shama District of the Western Region has won the district’s maiden Junior Graphic Reading Clinic Competition that was held last Friday.

The competition formed part of an evaluation process to determine how beneficial the one-year free supply of the Junior Graphic to selected deprived schools, sponsored by Ms Eunice Yaa Boatemaa Ntim, the Head of the Takoradi Harbour Branch of Zenith Bank, had been.

The winning team, made up of Master Gideon Kwofie and Miss Josephina Addae, took home prizes comprising exercise books and an atlas.

The contestants were tested on articles which were recently published in the Junior Graphic on topics including Child labour, Buruli ulcer and Tuberculosis.

The participating schools included the Abotaryie Ahmadiyya Primary in the Assorko Essaman Circuit, the Inchaban R.C. Primary in the Inchaban Circuit, the Abuesi Methodist  Primary in the Aboadze/Abuesi Circuit, the Bosomdo District Assembly Primary in the Bronikrom Circuit and the Borkorkorpe District Assembly Primary in the Beposo Circuit.

All the schools are beneficiaries of the free weekly supply of  the Junior Graphic which is aimed at improving the reading and writing skills of schoolchildren in the district.

Speaking at the launch of the programme earlier this year, Ms Ntim said children represented the hope of the country and, therefore, it was important for them to be supported to guarantee their future development.

“Going through the contents of the Junior Graphic, I have realised that it would serve as good material and a good learning tool for deprived schools,” Ms Ntim said.

She expressed her satisfaction at the performance of the schoolchildren.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Shama, Mr Enoch Kojo Appiah, who initiated the reading clinic project, urged the participants in the competition to make maximum use of the copies of the Junior Graphic supplied to them.
