Gloria Ampofo sings for the Black Stars
The start of the FIFA Men’s World Cup 2022 is fast approaching and football lovers everywhere, especially those who have their national teams in the contest, are looking forward to an exciting tournament in Qatar and wishing their respective teams well.
One such fellow is 67-year-old ardent fan and singer/songwriter, Gloria Ampofo. She has decided to not only sit back and support the Black Stars from the sidelines, but has also put out a cheer song titled ‘Great Stars’.
It is a Jama-flavoured piece recorded by well-known sound engineer Quick Action. The track extols the prowess of the Ghanaian team and its determination to bring glory and honour to the nation.
She contends it is the Lord who has made the Black Stars great and, therefore, enjoins all who listen to the song to join her in prayer for the team for a good showing at the football extravaganza.
She also prays for good health and strength for all the players and their handlers to enable them to do their best in Qatar.
A native of Mampong Akwapim in the Eastern Region, Gloria Ampofo worked with the Agricultural Development Bank as a Bilingual Secretary. She is now a florist and businesswoman.
In 2014, she released an eight-track collection of Christmas carols. In 2017, she came out with a lively danceable Highlife track in English for Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary. Other musical gems under her belt include Bible-inspired songs for children, choirs, women’s fellowships and more Christmas carols yet to come out.
Gloria Ampofo worships with the Mt Zion Methodist Church at Sakumono, near Tema. She is grateful to the ministers of the Gospel as well as the women’s fellowship in her church for their prayer support.
The accompanying video of the Great Stars song is a colourful, pacy presentation of Black Stars in action on the field, jubilant supporters of the team, presentation of the World Cup Trophy to the Ghanaian
President during its world tour and other images that inspire patriotism among football fans.
The Great Stars song is definitely something supporters of the national team can jump and dance to as everyone is gripped by football fever in the lead-up to the FIFA Men’s World Cup 2022.
