The award to be christened: “Mayor’s Award”, will take effect in 2018.

This was announced by the Mayor at the 77th anniversary, Speech and Prize Giving Day of the school held on Saturday.

Giving his address as the Chairperson for the occasion, Mr Sowah, who is also a product of the school said it was his wish to see students from his alma mater not only taking ministerial, managerial and chief executive positions in the country, but aiming at the presidency.

He has, therefore, called on past students of the school to come together to help rebuild it.

He said most of the well-known schools in the country have reached where they are due to the support and assistance they receive from their past students.

That, Mr Sowah said, it was about time old students from the school came together and contributed to its development.

He said he would personally mobilise his year-group as a starter in order to motivate and encourage other year-groups to come together to help the school.

The Headmistress, Dr Shine Ofori in her address, commended the old students for their continued support in diverse ways.

She, however, said the school urgently needed the assistance of its old students to be able to carry out some key developmental projects.

She said the school lacked a science lab, needs more classroom blocks, dining and assembly halls, a library, desks, street lights, and security.

Dr Ofori has, therefore, appealed to the government, NGOs, benevolent individuals and corporate bodies to come to their aid.

The Guest Speaker for the anniversary, Dr Emmanuel Lamptey, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ga Central Municipal Assembly, encouraged the school to introduce programmes to help identify and develop the talents of its students.

He said developing talents of students would not only lead to academic excellence but would help fill key management positions in the country for economic success.

The celebration was on the theme: “Modelling academic excellence and development of talents for life”.
