The Accra Technical University has graduated a total of 2,771 from the Bachelor of Technology, Master of Technology, and Diploma programmes during its 25th congregation ceremony.
Among the graduates, 427 were from the Faculty of Engineering, 116 from the Faculty of Built Environment, 348 from Applied Arts, 1,184 from Business and 696 from Applied Sciences.
The event, held on the theme, “Emerging Technologies: How prepared are ATU graduates?”, celebrated not only the achievements of individual students but also the collective progress of the institution over 60 years of shaping technicians, technologists, innovators and leaders who continue to contribute to the development of Ghana and beyond.
Achievements
Speaking at the ceremony on November 29, the acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amevi Ackakpovi, said 2025 was an exceptional year in the ATU’s history, marked by significant achievements in research, innovation, industry collaboration and internationalisation.
He said the university projected approximately 200 peer-reviewed publications, representing an 80 per cent increase from previous years and hosted its maiden Applied Research Conference, ARCATU 2025, that brought together over 250 staff and students to showcase work across engineering, applied sciences, business, creative arts, urban sustainability and emerging technologies.
Prof. Ackakpovi mentioned the university’s maiden innovation, career and job fair, which provided graduates direct interaction with leading companies, including Nestlé Ghana, the Accra Brewery Limited, the Electricity Company of Ghana, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, the Ghana Water Ltd., the Stanbic Bank Ghana, the Marriott Hotel and Techno Ghana.
In addition, he said, nine projects had received funding under the Applied Research and Innovation Fund, covering areas such as renewable energy, digital transformation, health sciences, urban resilience and creative industry innovation.
He further said that the ATU secured over $4.5 million in competitive grants from international partners and upgraded key facilities in partnership with the Design Technology Institute, including the modernisation of the Welding Workshop, Fashion Design and Electrical Engineering workshops.
Prof. Ackakpovi said ATU would host Ghana’s first National Robotics Technology Olympics, revamp its Automotive Workshop in collaboration with Japan, complete ICT and student hostel expansions, operationalise a state-of-the-art Civil Engineering Laboratory at Mpehuasem and strengthen international partnerships across Africa.
Commitment
Delivering a speech on behalf of the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, the Director of Tertiary Education, Dr Emmanuel Newman, said the congregation symbolised both pride and renewed hope, underscoring the theme of emerging technologies and the necessity for graduates to be adaptable, innovative, and industry-ready.
Mr Iddrisu commended the ATU for producing graduates who were not only technically proficient but capable of creating opportunities, inventing solutions and contributing to Ghana’s digital economy, urging the graduates to embrace integrity, resilience and lifelong learning.
Calls for boldness, responsibility
The valedictorian, Gloria Safo, recounted the challenges faced by the class of 2025, which included financial struggles and personal losses.
