The Dr K.B. Tandoh Outreach, a non-profit organisation founded by a former Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, has donated 2,000 reading materials to selected public basic schools and a private school in Fawohoyeden in Goaso, the Ahafo Regional capital.
Beneficiary schools included the Methodist Basic School, Islamic Basic School, Presbyterian A&B Basic Schools, Roman Catholic A&B Basic Schools in Goaso, and the Lawrence Montessori School in Fawohoyeden in the Asunafo North Municipality.
The books, which cover English, basic arithmetic, information technology, science, history, dictionaries, storybooks and teaching aids, are aimed at boosting literacy and improving learning outcomes.
Speaking at the presentation at the Goaso Methodist Primary School, Dr Tandoh explained that the initiative was driven by his passion for promoting reading among children to achieve academic excellence.
He reaffirmed the outreach’s commitment to supporting deprived communities and health facilities across the municipality.
Responding, the Headteacher of the school, Linda Berchie, praised the initiative and its potential impact on education.
“A good and well-stocked library is essential for improving learning outcomes. I am hopeful these books will open a world of imagination and knowledge for these little ones in our schools and communities.
“We will ensure the pupils cultivate the habit of reading, which is necessary for academic excellence,” she said.
