UHAS introduces new programmes
The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Council has approved the introduction of the Professional Practice Certificate Course (PPCC).

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lydia Aziato, announced this prior to the inauguration of the UHAS China Aid Project Phased II at the main campus at Sokode-Lokoe, near Ho, by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The UHAS China Aid Phase II includes the Central Administration Complex, School of Nursing and Midwifery with a student capacity of 2,500, a teaching block, and the fully equipped state-of-the-art UHAS Simulation Centre.
She said UHAS had also received accreditation from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and Allied Health Professional Council for the introduction of PhD, MPhil Medical, and Doctor of Medical Laboratory Sciences.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor announced that the Fred N. Binka School of Public Health in Hohoe had successfully rolled out the weekend option of Master of Public Health Programme.

“The university has developed more programmes: Bachelor of Health Service Administration and Doctor of Psychology with options in Clinical and Neuro Psychology, and Guidance and Counselling, which will commence in the 2024/2025 academic year,” he said.
Professor Aziato said the student enrolment for the 2023/2024 academic year stood at 8,240, comprising 6,028 regular undergraduates, 2,013 sandwich, and 199 postgraduate students.
The Vice-Chancellor said UHAS’ students had performed very well in their professional examinations over the years.

For instance, she said, all 73 medical students presented for the Final MBChB Part II Examinations in October 2023 passed in Internal Medicine and Community Health, obtaining a 100 per cent pass in both disciplines with 93.1 in surgery.
“The university is grateful to the Government of Ghana and the People’s Republic of China for the Phase II project,” Professor Aziato said.
Before the inauguration, President Akufo-Addo said the government attached great importance to UHAS and would continue to commit resources and great zeal to its infrastructural development projects.
The Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of China, Li Yang, said the Phase II project was yet another monumental outcome of the cordial ties between Ghana and China, which would benefit generations yet unborn.
