Sawer M/A School gets new classroom block
A six-unit classroom block for the Sawer Municipal Assembly Primary School in Somanya has been handed over to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly and the Ghana Education Service.
Sawer Primary School, which was established in 1996, had its roof ripped off more than a year ago, rendering teaching and learning ineffective, and they had to put up in make-shift structures and under trees.
A non-governmental organisation, Compassion International, came to the aid of the school with the modern structure, which also has four offices, a set of furniture, lavatories and other auxiliary facilities at the cost of GH¢397,000.

Handing over
At a short ceremony to hand over the facility, the Partnership Facilitator for the Somanya Cluster of Compassion International Ghana, Mr Ishmael Nii Adu Armah, said the organisation currently took care of over 80,000 children in 12 regions in the country with educational facilities and other assistance.
Mr Armah said within its 15 years of existence in Ghana, the organisation had been partnering churches and sponsors all over the world to complete projects and help to provide quality education to the needy such as orphans and others in society.
“We believe that every child must be known, loved and protected because they are the heartbeat of God” he stressed.
He said the school did not only need modern classrooms and places of convenience to enhance effective teaching and learning but also lacked decent information and communication technology (ICT) laboratory, library, playground and educational materials.
The Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Ebenezer Tetteh Kupualor, expressed the assembly’s gratitude to the organisation and all other stakeholders who assisted in several ways to put up the infrastructure for the basic school at Sawer, a suburb of Somanya.
Assurance
In response to an appeal for a junior high school to be built for Sawer M/A Primary, he urged the management committee of the school to start the process from the GES, adding that the education directorate had the responsibility of recommending the building of a school, saying “I shall take it up from there.”

The Assemblyman for the Sawer Electoral area, Mr Jones Adamtey Dendenden, advised the parents of the school to occasionally visit the school in order to know the academic progress of their children.
The Chief of Bornya Division in the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Ayerteye Ayiborku, who chaired the function advised parents to provide the needed educational materials for their children for effective teaching and learning.
