The projects are the Amantin Agro Processing Project located at Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo Region, the Asikess Ventures Limited at Begoro-Aburaso in the Eastern Region and the, Adaklu Agro Processing Project in the Volta Region.

This follows their successful passage through evaluation at the 1D1F Secretariat and subsequent approval by the banks that are ready with the funding mechanism.

All the three projects will depend wholly on cassava for production.

The projects

Throwing more light on the projects, the National Coordinator of the 1D1F, Ms Gifty Ohene Konadu, said the Amantin Agro Processing Project, which will be located at Atebubu Amantin in the Brong Ahafo Region, had a processing plant capacity of 1,200 tonnes per day and was expected to produce seven tonnes of industrial starch every day.

She said the prefabricated materials for the construction of the factory had been shipped to Ghana, with part of the shipment having “already arrived at the project site”.

The factory, she added, had six dams to ensure all-year round cultivation of cassava.

She explained that the facility would be supported by 8,000 acres of cassava nucleus farms, with an additional 8,000 acres to be added in the coming months.

The National Co-ordinator said funding for the project had been “firmly secured” and that the first phase of the project was estimated to create 3,000 direct employment.

The Asikess project

The Asikess Agro Processing Plant, she said, would be established on a 9,000-hectare land at Begoro Aburaso in the Eastern Region, with a capacity of 100 metric tonnes production per day.

In view of that, she explained, out-growers with two acres holding per unit were expected to be organised to produce the raw materials to feed the factory.

According to Madam Ohene Konadu, seedlings, land clearing devices and weedicide would be supplied to the out-growers to fast-track their work.

Kpetsu, Adaklu project

Throwing more light on the Kpetsu-Adaklu Agro Processing Plant, she said the project would be located on a 16,000 acre land at Kpetsu in the Volta Region.

“Even before the factory takes off, 1,500 acres out of the 16,000 acres of the acquired land have been cleared, with 650 acres of cassava of various species cultivated,” she added.

Ms Ohene Konadu said an additional 50 acres of land had been acquired to house factory buildings and offices and that out-grower schemes would soon be organised to support the project.

Outlook for 2018

Touching on the outlook for 2018, she said the secretariat had forwarded 60 business plans and proposals to some participating financial institutions to study.
