They shot and killed 9 of my cattle - Alhaji Gruzah

Founder and President of King Faisal FC, Alhaji Karim Gruzah has claimed that someone has shot and killed nine of his cows in the Agogo area of Asante Akyem North District of the Ashanti Region which according to him, were in a kraal at the time the cows were shot.

In an interview on Asempa FM's Ekosii sƐn programme, Alhaji Gruzah said though he is yet to verify the actual casualty, he is reliably informed by a farmer who lives near his ranch.

He said his caretaker had gone to represent him at a peace mediation meeting between the police, chiefs and people of Agogo when the killing took place.

According to Alhaji Gruzah, his cattle were in a kraal and had done nothing to warrant their killing because they were yet to go out for grazing.

Alhaji's complaints come in the wake of threats of retributions by locals who claim the nomadic herdsmen have been destroying their farms and killing as well as maiming residents. The indigenes have been mounting pressure on government to flush out the Fulani nomads from the area.

A rather pensive Gruzah said he was in support of government effort to bring peace to the area, however, it will be difficult to leave the area because he is not only a cattle farmer but a food crop farmer. He added that not every Fulani is going to leave the area as the constitution of Ghana provides everyone the right to live and fend for themselves.

He observed that people think Fulani’s are not Ghanaians because they are not Akans but many of them (The Fulani’s) were born in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

According to Alhaji Gruzah, Fulanis have lived in the Agogo community for a very long time without problems and therefore believes some people are hiding behind recent disagreements to stoke fires and perpetuate crime against hard working Fulanis.

He has, in the meantime committed everything and anyone who contributed to the killing of his cows to the hands of God, explaining that as far as he knows, his cattle have never destroyed anyone’s farm because he has a responsible and hardworking caretaker and residents of Agogo know him for this.

He said in any case, if his cows have destroyed people’s farms and they cannot tell him, what stops them from reporting to the police.

Did they have to kill the cattle or seek redress from the owner of the cattle?, he queried.
