Ghanaian delegation pays commiserating visit to Ivory Coast

A government delegation Thursday arrived in Abidjan, Ivory Coast to commiserate with Ivorians, following last Sunday’s terrorist attack.

The delegation, led by the Minister of Defence, Dr Benjamin Kumbuor was received by Ivorian President, Alassane Ouatara.

Other members of the delegation were Mr Prosper Bani, Minister of Interior, Ambassador Alhaji Baba Kamara, Presidential Advisor on Security, Ambassador Lt. Gen. Peter Augustine Blay (Rtd), Ghana’s Ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire and Air Marshal Michael Sampson-Oje, Ghana’s Chief of Defence Staff.

According to Dr Kumbuor, they were in the country on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama to express solidarity with the President and people of Ivory Coast following the attack on the Etoile du Sud Hotel which led to the death of about 16 people.

“We are here to extend the condolences of the President and the people of Ghana to Cote d’Ivoire and the bereaved families. You know, if Cote d’Ivoire does not sleep, Ghana can never sleep because we are one and the same people,” he said.

Dr Kumbuor also indicated that the attack on Ivory Coast Cote was a wake-up call for countries in the West African sub-region to increase their collaborative efforts to counter the terrorist threat in the region.

The delegation also visited Grand-Bassam and laid a wreath in memory of the victims on behalf of the government and people of Ghana.
