Accra Aca honours athletes

Past athletes of Accra Academy Senior High School were last Tuesday honoured in a special ceremony on the school’s assembly grounds in Accra.

The occasion witnessed the awarding of plaques to “The Fearsome Five”, an elite group of five athletes who blazed the trail and lifted the name of the second-cycle school to the highest level during their hey-day.

They were Edwin Randolph, alias Randy Stone, John Myles Mills, alias Babylonia, and Francis Gayi, alias Saykelee. The rest were Francis Tetteh, alias Nene Opinta, and Theophilus Addo, alias Abisca.

Other past students who won laurels for the school also received plaques with a citation bearing their achievements during their days in the school.

They were Prince Joe Lartey, Sports Journalist with TV Africa, Israel Kwaku-Mensah Nornyibey,Inusah Mohammed with Promasidor Ghana Limited, and Benjamin Aryeh of the Minerals Commission.

The Headmaster of the school, Samuel Ofori-Adjei was also honoured for his contributions towards sports.

A former Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Vincent Cyril Richard Arthur Charles Crabbe, called for discipline to be instilled into the youth by authorities to enhance the growth and development of the nation.

The venerable justice suggested that sports must be taken seriously in the country, to serve as a source of employment, an income generating activity and minimise the growing streetism and youth unemployment in the country.
