Agric minister: all 900 seized galamsey pumps to be on farms by Friday
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture expects all 900 irrigation pumps seized from illegal mining sites to be in use on farms by Friday, following their distribution to nine regions.
This was announced at a press briefing held in Accra on Monday [November 24, 2025], where the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Mr Eric Opoku, responded to questions on the status of the equipment.
Mr Opoku said the pumps were taken from illegal mining operations.
He explained that the task force fighting illegal mining had confiscated the items and, in line with the law, secured a court order for their release to support agricultural work.
He said the pumps were distributed three days later to the nine regions.
He said deployment had begun and was expected to be completed before the end of the week.
According to Mr Opoku, by Friday every one of the pumps should be on farms to support farmers.
