Akyem Oda MP supports Oda Government Hospital

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Oda, Mr William Agyapong Quaittoo, has called on Ghanaians, irrespective of their political, ethnic or religious affiliations, to contribute meaningfully towards the promotion of health in order to receive better health care at all times.

He said the call had become necessary, since diseases did not know political parties, ethnic groups or religions when they struck.

Mr Quaittoo made the call when he donated GH¢20,000 worth of medical equipment, 50 bed sheets and a quantity of food items, soft drinks and toiletries, all valued at GH¢3,000, to the Oda Government Hospital at a ceremony in Akyem Oda last Wednesday.

The medical equipment included a laryngoscope, sphygmomanometers, gluccometers, autoclaves, mobile oxygen and underwater seal drainage equipment.

Making the presentation, Mr Quaittoo said in response to an appeal made to him by the authorities of the hospital for assistance, he contacted his friend in the US when he visited the US to provide the health facility with the equipment and his friend obliged and shipped the items through him.

He said another friend took care of the freight and other expenses involved in the shipment of the equipment.

According to him, he bought the bed sheets, food items, soft drinks and toiletries from his share of the MP’s Common Fund.

He advised the hospital authorities to take proper care of the items to save lives.

The MP said he had allocated GH¢1,500 from his share of the National Health Insurance Fund to the hospital to purchase items it needed immediately to facilitate its operations.

He and other members of the NPP later visited patients at the Children’s Ward to wish them a speedy recovery.

The Medical Superintendent in charge of the hospital, Dr Kobena Awotwe Wiredu, who received the items, commended the donors and promised to use the items for the intended purpose.

He commended Mr Quaittoo for his commitment to the development of the hospital, mentioning in particular, the donation of a number of physiotherapy bicycles to the facility and improving the water supply system at the hospital.

Dr Wiredu urged other well-to-do individuals and organisations to emulate the MP’s example to help develop the hospital.
