Asantehene’s 15th anniversary announced

Manhyia Palace has announced a 20-day festival to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the enstoolment of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on the Golden Stool.

A programme outlined in a statement yesterday said the climax had been fixed for Sunday, May 11, with a grand durbar at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

High profile dignitaries, including President John Dramani Mahama, are expected to grace the occasion before an expected packed crowd.

The celebration would include performances by traditional priests and the Akwasidae (Kuntunkunidee) on Sunday, March 30, 2014 and a photo exhibition on Wednesday, April 16, 2014.

Subsequently, a ban on funerals and drumming has been imposed between March 29 and May 21, 2014.

A meeting between some sub chiefs and selected journalists at Manhyia yesterday called for support and collaboration to make the celebrations a success.
