Reports earlier suggested about five people, a woman, two children and some men were in the building before it collapsed but the Fire Service has said there were three people in the building.

The eyewitnesses said the uncompleted building collapsed at about 4:15am Thursday morning.

Mr John Mark Eshun, whose house is opposite where the incident happened  told Accra based radio station, Joy FM that he saw one man coming out of the building at about 4:15am to wash his face.

“The building started collapsing just after that…the whole building started collapsing… all the building was coming down, it started dropping and all the area was filled with dust. That is what happened,” Mr Eshun said.

Security personnel made up of the police, the national ambulance and fire services are on the ground hoping to rescue some people trapped under the debris.

Dozens of people have gathered at the scene.

Rescue operation is still underway.
