Junior Sekpenu, who was charged with assault before the Amasaman District Court A,  pleaded guilty to the charge  and was convicted on his own  plea.

He is to pay GH¢300 to the court and GH¢200 as compensation to the complainant.

However he will serve six months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.

The facts of the case as presented to the court by the Prosecutor, Sergeant Nashiru Salifu, were that the complainant, Roselyn Okyere, a student, and Sekpenu, were both residents of Chantan, a suburb of Accra.

On February 26, 2015, Okyere was at her  residence when Sekpenu came looking for his friend.

The prosecutor said Okyere was, by then, receiving a phone call when Sekpenu felt that her conversation was indirectly referring to him.

Sgt Salifu said Sekpenu then removed his belt and without any provocation, lashed Okyere severely.

A complaint was lodged at the Israel Police Station and a medical form was issued to Okyere to attend hospital for treatment.

The prosecutor said on April 8, 2015, Sekpenu was spotted and arrested.
