The kits are to assist in the accurate and timely diagnosis of malaria in the country.

The presentation of the malaria diagnostic kits forms part of the British government’s GH¢168 million budgetary support to the ministry for the period 2014 to 2017.

Presenting the items, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr Peter Jones, stressed the need for Ghanaians to test before undergoing malaria treatment.

“Malaria evolves and becomes resistant to treatment and this happens more quickly if the drugs are taken when there is no malaria,” he said.

Receiving the items, the Minister of Health, Ms Sherry Ayittey, commended the British government for the support.

She said the diagnostic kits would be distributed to community and district health centres, with the bulk going to the Western, Central and Northern regions due to the huge figures recorded in malaria in those parts of the country.
