The high commissioner has served in the country for three years.

The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Alhaji Murtala Mohammed, said Ghana had enjoyed tremendous assistance and support from Canada during the tenure of the out-going high commissioner.

He also said Canada had assisted Ghana in the area of agriculture, health, road construction, good governance, democratic development and peace and security.

He added that Ghana needed the assistance most in the area of security as the world over was experiencing terrorist attacks, especially in Ghana’s neighbouring countries.

Alhaji Mohammed said the high commissioner had personally been instrumental in the fight against child and early marriages and practices inimical to children’s rights in various communities in the country and expressed the hope that his successor would continue the good work.

Alhaji Abdulai Nantogma, Vice-President of the chamber, said the high commissioner had assisted members in various ways to drive the vision of the professional business interest group to promote trade and investment.

He said Mr Thornley was noted as “most accessible and supportive high commissioner” who quickly responded to issues and challenges brought to his attention.

In his remarks, Mr Thornley said ,“Canada and Ghana truly have grown together over the years. We have a special and well-established relationship.”

The CGCC presented a citation and Ghanaian artifacts to the high commissioner and his wife, Mrs Catherine Thornley.
