Challenged persons to sell Frytol cooking oil

About 200 physically challenged people in Accra, especially those who beg, will soon leave their begging bowls, as Wilmar Africa engages them in the sale of Frytol cooking oil.

The initiative, which is in collaboration with the Ghana Federation of Disabled (GFD), is expected to begin in April this year.

According to the General Manager of Wilmar Africa Limited, Mrs Fatima Alimohamed, the move was geared towards supporting the disabled to earn a living, adding that it would also help reduce unemployment.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Accra at the launch of a nationwide campaign to promote the brand, she said each physically challenged person would be given a tricycle to be used to sell Frytol cooking oil.

“As we speak now, the tricycles are on their way to Accra to begin the new initiative,” she added.

She said the initiative would be extended to other regions, depending on how successful it would be in Accra.

Campaign trail

The campaign trail began at Osu in Accra with a branded Frytol truck driving through the local communities engaging directly with residents of the area.

As part of the event, residents of Osu Alata and its surrounding communities later gathered at the Mandela Park at Osu to partake in various social activities, including listening to the tales of Ananse, while they enjoyed “kelewele”.

Mrs Alimohamed hinted that a second phase of the launch, dubbed, ‘Anopa, Awia ne Enyumre’ (Morning, Afternoon and Evening), would take place later in the month, during which the campaign team would host members of the public to an ‘oware’ competition and other social activities.

She said the rationale behind the campaign was to promote the brand by engaging directly with consumers.
