The memorial service held on Monday at the Wesley Methodist Church at Sekondi, was attended by family and friends of the late businessman.

The Daily Graphic reported last week how Ebo Sam was shot at Eyiaba Lodge, a popular hotel located between Akyem Oda and Akyem Swedru in the Eastern Region after he attended the wedding of a close relation.

Mr Sam was with his wife of 30 years, Mrs Olive Sam, 52, with who he has six children in the same hotel room when he was shot at close range.

According to reports from family members, Mrs Sam was threatened by the armed robber when she started crying loudly after her husband was shot, however, fearing for her life she kept mute as insisted by the armed robber.

Family in mourning
When the Daily Graphic visited the late Sam’s residence in Takoradi last week Monday, the family members were still in shock upon hearing the news of his sudden death at the hands of armed robbers.

Some of his friends and members of his extended family visited the house to pay their respects and mourn their departed loved one whose death they could not come to grips with.

Being a regular and committed member of the church as well as a strong Christian, the family, according to the deceased’s son Mr Cramer Sam, believed it was best to observe the traditional one week mourning at the church where his father felt most at home.

“One week after the passing of our beloved, we still feel the pain as if he was indiscriminately killed this morning. My mother has not recovered from the shock of witnessing her own husband killed,” he said.

“She was so traumatized by the incident that she went numb and was oblivious to what was happening around her. How do you recover from such a thing?” he continued.

He said the family had decided on August 29 for the final funeral rite, adding, “We want to take this opportunity to thank the people who continue to mourn with us. We ask that they remember Mr Sam, the widow and the entire family in their prayers.”
