CRIG honours workers
Eighteen workers of the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) who excelled in the performance of their duties last year have been honoured at Tafo in the Eastern Region.

A 56-year-old man, Mr Mawuli Nkegbe, emerged the overall best worker and took home a citation and a 42-inch flat screen television set.
The Chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Mr Daniel Ohene-Agyekum, re-echoed the government’s commitment to pay bonuses to hardworking cocoa farmers in the country.
He said the Ministry of Finance had already indicated its readiness to adjust the producer price of cocoa in order to motivate farmers and also discourage the smuggling of cocoa across the country’s borders.
He said the COCOBOD would continue to recognise and reward hard work and achievement, as evidenced in the annual bonuses that were paid to members of staff.
Mr Ohene-Agyekum, however, said there was the need also to recognise individual performances and achievements, which are key to motivation and individual self-fulfilment.
He congratulated the award winners on their excellent performances and hoped that it would spur them on to put in their best in the years to come.
“I wish to remind all staff members that with dedication to duty, hard work and unity of purpose, we can collectively rise above all challenges and attain the goals and objectives that we have set for ourselves,” he added.

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Miss Mavis Ama Frimpong, commended the management of CRIG for maintaining a conducive working environment which had enabled the staff to do their best.
She gave an assurance that the government attached importance to research as a tool to improve every aspect of national life and therefore urged CRIG to intensify its efforts to commercialise some of its technologies, products and services to generate supplementary funds to sustain its operations.
The Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Dr Stephen Opuni, whose speech was read on his behalf, said as part of efforts to motivate staff, home ownership loans had been introduced while the ban on promotions and overtime payments had been lifted.
The Executive Director of CRIG, Dr F. M. Amoah, lauded all previous workers of the institute for their pioneering role and hard work, discipline and unique working ethics.
